Karyl Newman is a Los Angeles based artist, designer and curator. Her attraction to place and scale led her to a body of work of site-specific installations. She reveals the history and intervenes the experience of a place using a variety of materials, from inflatable sculpture, sound and video, to performance. She has performed or exhibited at the O'Reilly Maker Faire, The REDCAT at Disney Concert Hall, Dangerous Curve, space untitled - Berlin, and the Prague Quadrennial, in addition to making site-specific projects in the Mojave, Los Angeles and New York. She consults on multimedia installation with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, in addition to designing sets, lights and projection for theater and film. She holds an MFA from Yale University. Her latest sound piece, reec(h)o, embraces a belief that music is everywhere, and discovers sound from the ecological lifespan of recycled landscaping materials and will emanate from within a California Friendly Garden created from green resources by The Tierra Verde ECOcentre. |
